Make your Labubu look boo-tiful for Halloween with this quick & easy witches hat crochet pattern, perfect for using up yarn scraps.

What you Need

  • 3.5mm (size E) crochet hook
  • 18m / 20 yds approx of sport or light DK yarn, with optional scrap in contrast colour for band above brim.
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

I used black Drops Baby Merino sport weight wool for my hat, with silver Ricorumi LamΓ© fine DK for the sparkly band.

Hat (folded flat) is approx 10cm / 4 inches wide across bottom (widest point) and 6cm / 2.25 inches wide above brim (across bottom of triangle). Exact gauge is not important but yarn with a bit of natural elasticity (acrylic, wool etc) works best for a good fit.

You could also use thicker DK, worsted or even aran yarn with a 4mm hook. Your hat will be a bit bigger but still cute πŸ™‚

Labubu Crochet Witches Hat Pattern

Pointed witch hat to fit standard size blind box Labubu and Lafufu dolls

Total time approx: 45 minutes

Step 1: Crochet a Cone Shape

Crochet a cone shape for the top of the witch hat

Work from the top of the hat down in a spiral, crocheting every round without a starting chain or joining at the end. Increase 4 stitches on the odd rounds and just crochet every stitch on the even rounds.

R1: Starting with a magic ring (video tutorial), make 4 sc into it and pull the yarn tail to close the ring. [4 st]
R2: sc in evert st [4 st]
R3: 2sc x 4 times [8 st]
R4: sc in every st [8 st]
R5: (2sc, sc) x 4 times [12 st]
R6: sc in every st [12 st]
R7: (2sc, sc x 2) x 4 times [16 st]
R8: sc in every st [16 st]
R9: (2sc, sc x 3) x 4 times. Sl st in 1st st to join at end of round [20 st]

Step 2: Make Gap at Back for Keychain

Crochet back and forth in rows just for this step. This will make an opening at the back of the hat to put the keychain through when you put the hat on the Labubu doll.

R10: Turn your cone around so the WS is facing. Ch 1, sc in every st [20 st]
R11: Turn (RS). Ch 1, (sc x 2, 2sc, sc x 2) x 4 times [24 st]
R12: Turn (WS), Ch 1, sc in every st, sl st in 1st st to join. [24 st]

Step 3: Crochet Wide Brim

Crochet the wide brim of the hat in joined rounds

Crochet the brim of the hat in joined rounds. Start each round with ch 1 and end with a sl st to 1st sc.

Work the next round in the back loop only to make a nice line to mark where the brim starts:
R13: Working in BLO, ch 1, (2sc, sc x 3) x 6 times, sl st in 1st sc [30 st]

R14: Ch 1, (sc x 2, 2sc, sc x 2) x 6 times, sl st in 1st sc [36 st]
R15: Ch 1, (2sc, sc x 5) x 6 times, sl st in 1st sc [42 st]
R16: Ch 1, (sc x 3, 2sc, sc x 3) x 6 times, sl st in 1st sc [48 st]

Step 4: Add Fancy Edge

Add a fancy edge to give your hat the perfect finish

Fasten off now if you like, or do a final round to give your brim a fancy trim:
R17: (Ch 1, sl st in sc) x 48 times. Your last sl st will be beside the 1st ch 1.
I’ve a step by step video tutorial showing how to do this raised edge border here.
Fasten off & weave in both yarn ends.

Step 5: Add Hat Band

Surface crochet a silver band around the hat

It’s easy to add a hat band above the brim using surface crochet. If you’ve never done this before, here’s a good 3 min video tutorial.

Using a contrast colour yarn (I used Ricorumi Lame in silver), with your working yarn coming from under your hat (on the wrong side), bring the yarn through the opening at the back of the hat and make a slip knot on your hook.

Working just above the brim line made in R13 by working in BLO, put your hook through the hole after the 1st sc st, yoh under your hat and pull your hook back through to the right side, coming through the loop on the front to make a chain shape.

Repeat this all the way around, putting your hook through the gap after the next sc, yoh underneath your hat & pull through the loop on the right side to embroider chain stitches all the way around your hat.
Once you’re back at the starting point, fasten off & weave in the 2 ends on the inside of the hat.
